Effects of Unions

This assignment deals with the auto industry, specifically GM, Ford, and Chrysler, as well as their overseas competitors. You are to prepare a short paper, two to three pages in length, not including the cover page or reference page. Answer the following questions.

Discuss the effects of unions on auto prices for GM, Ford, and Chrysler.

Contrast the auto prices of Toyota, Nissan, and Hyundai.

What are some of the issues that the American automakers face in competing with their overseas competitors?

Can union automakers compete with others? If so, how?

What long-term strategies may need to be implemented to create a level playing field?

Can union leadership help? If so, how?

Objectives

The purpose of the Pool Paper is to allow students to select from five different scenarios in labor relations. Students are asked to select one scenario and develop it into a two- to three-page paper. This exercise allows students the opportunity to apply concepts covered in class to real-world situations.
